Caring and Sharing: The Key to Productivity and Wellbeing

The latest World Happiness Report 2025 highlights a powerful insight: acts of kindness and social connection boost both individual well-being and societal prosperity. The report finds that people who regularly engage in benevolent activities – such as donating, volunteering, or helping strangers – experience greater happiness and improved mental health.

But the impact extends beyond personal well-being. The research suggests that workplaces and societies that foster generosity and connection see higher levels of productivity and overall satisfaction. Employees who feel supported and valued are more engaged, while strong social bonds reduce stress, loneliness, and even deaths of despair.

Interestingly, many people underestimate the kindness of others, leading to unnecessary social distrust. By recognising and encouraging acts of caring and sharing, organisations and communities can create environments where both happiness and efficiency thrive.

With benevolence levels still 10% higher than pre-pandemic times, the challenge now is to sustain this positive shift—whether through workplace culture, public policies, or everyday interactions.
