Over the past few weeks, I’ve been walking around with buckets, trying to stop water from coming in through the front windows of my house. That’s the joy of living in a Victorian property built in 1891!
But while the rain limited what I could do outside, I found time to do something just as valuable, I picked up the phone.
I called people I hadn’t spoken to in years, former colleagues from six or seven years ago. And to my surprise, those simple check-ins turned into something more: real conversations, renewed relationships… and even the potential for new work.
I didn’t call with a pitch. I just wanted to say hello, to catch up. Naturally, they asked what I was up to, so I told them a bit about what I’ve been working on, and it sparked interest. That’s it. No magic formula.
So here’s a challenge for you this week:
Call two old colleagues – just to say hi.
You never know what might come from a simple conversation.
